Michael Yunik Story

A Navy Nuclear trained First Class Petty Officer (E-6) with over 6 years of experience in the areas of nuclear aircraft carrier electrical distribution and casualty control operations.  A Navy qualified switchgear operator, propulsion electrician, load dispatcher, and propulsion plant training team member.  Michael’s last tour in the Navy was at USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) home ported out of Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia as the Leading Petty Officer, where he led and mentored 64 personnel, administered oral boards to personnel pursuing nuclear qualifications and assisted in the development of plans to reliably shift the electric plant to meet the ship’s operational commitments.

He found out about the Power4Vets program via one of his coworkers and thru the Norfolk Transition Office and enrolled into the program in November 2012 and completed his NERC RC Certification in March 2013 prior to getting out of the Navy.  His military contract or enlisted obligated service date ended in August 2013 and he is currently working for Dominion Power as a Transmission System Operator.

Congratulations, to Michael Yunik for believing in the Power4Vets program and we are Proud of your SUCCESS!!

 In Michael’s own words:

“Power4Vets was extremely instrumental in getting me into my dream job after the Navy.  A lot of Navy Nukes would like to get into system operations, but are steered away by the prospect of NERC certification. Power4Vets has bridged that gap by providing the materials and hands-on instruction necessary to become certified. I can’t recommend the program highly enough to any veteran interested in getting into the industry. Thank you David Miranda, and the Power4Vets team, for everything that you do!”
