NERC Standards EOP-005, EOP-006, and PER-005 are requiring that Transmission Owners, Balancing Authorities and Reliability Coordinators use realistic system specific simulators for verifying restoration plans, conducting co-ordinated restoration drills and providing emergency operations training.

Many Transmission Operators and Balancing Authorities have not purchased a Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) as part of their EMS; and many of those that have purchased a DTS have not been able to allocate the large amount of engineering support to make it operational.

Solution

In less than 6 months you can be running a realistic system specific simulator. Like the Standard PowerSimulator click here, the Custom PowerSimulator will realistically re-create the proper power flows, voltages and frequencies so operators can practice their response to forced transmission and generator outage and also validate and practice system restoration.

However, the Custom PowerSimulator model is tailored so that system operators can run the system from station one-line diagrams that are laid out to mimic the customer’s actual SCADA and EMS station diagrams. The Custom PowerSimulator can be built by either expanding the Standard PowerSimulator Model or by
importing a CIM XML file, from the customer's Energy Management System.
